Board of Trustees

Trustees are volunteers, appointed by the Douglas County Commissioners.

The board adopts and oversees the budget, bylaws and policies. The board conducts long-range planning and hires and evaluates the library director.

Dawn Vaughn

Appointed in January 2020. Dawn Vaughn worked in public education as a teacher, librarian and administrator before retiring in 2008. She was active in the American Library Association, serving as president of the American Association of School Librarians. Since retirement, Dawn loves traveling the world with her husband, spending time with her three children and seven grandchildren, playing bridge with friends, golfing, and reading. She lives in Highlands Ranch with her husband.

Suzanne Burkholder

Appointed in January 2020. Suzanne Burkholder has a background in business and community engagement. She is currently an independent mediator in conflict and dispute resolution, and previously worked for a cable TV programmer. She volunteers for the City of Lone Tree Teen Court and in restorative justice circles for juvenile diversion. Suzanne is a parent of three, all educated in Douglas County schools, and resides in Lone Tree with her family.

Rick LaPointe

Appointed in January 2022. Rick LaPointe has worked in strategic, operational and consulting roles in the tech industry for more than 20 years, including at Facebook, Slack, Cisco and Raytheon. He has an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management and was an elected official in his city of birth in Massachusetts as an undergraduate in college. Rick is married with a young daughter who loves going to Douglas County Libraries.

Terry R. Nolan

Appointed in January 2021. Terry Nolan served our country in the U.S. Navy for 26 years, including a combat stint in Vietnam, and achieved the rank of captain. Following his Navy career, Terry served as general manager of the Highlands Ranch Metro District for more than 24 years, where he worked for the organization’s elected board of directors, led Metro District staff, and was responsible for managing many community services provided by the organization.

Daniel J. Danser

Appointed in January 2020. Dan Danser is a longtime Douglas County resident and has been active in such local organizations as Academy Charter School, Castle Rock Rotary Club, Douglas Land Conservancy, and others. He practiced antitrust and communications law in New York City before moving to Colorado in 1982 and continued to practice law in Castle Rock until his retirement. Dan is married with two children. He's a Master Gardener and enjoys many active hobbies.

Meghann Silverthorn

Appointed in February 2019. Meghann Silverthorn has a diverse background in public and civil service. She worked as an aerospace engineer and analyst for the Department of Defense for more than 10 years. She also served as an elected member of the Douglas County School District Board of Education for eight years, including two years as its president.

Jessica Kallweit

Appointed in January 2022. Jessica Kallweit has been a Douglas County resident for over 12 years. She has worked in the legal industry for nearly 10 years, currently as a domestic relations paralegal, with experience in criminal law and litigation. Previously, Jessica worked with the Colorado Attorney General at the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office and as an adjunct professor at Arapahoe Community College. She also owns a freelance paralegal business. She is married with a blended family of seven children.
