Reading Buddies

Reading Buddies is a reading enrichment program for children in grades 1-3, pairing a trained teen Big Buddy with a struggling young reader.

Little Buddies

Drop in for special Reading Buddies sessions this summer—no registration required!
  • Castle Rock: Tuesdays, June 17-July 12, 2-5PM
  • Highlands Ranch: Tuesdays, June 17-July 12, 1:30-3PM

  • Reading Buddies is not a tutoring service. This summer we're offering drop-in sessions instead of our usual one-on-one sessions. Come in for reading practice as often as you'd like.
  • You will need a Douglas County Libraries library card. Get a card if you don’t already have one.
  • Each Little Buddy who drops in will get to read and play literacy-based games with a trained Big Buddy, either one-on-one or in a small group.

Big Buddies

Be a Teen Reading Buddy! Teen Big Buddies are trained and paired with a child (grades 1-3) to help them become a stronger reader.
  • Buddies meet weekly for four weeks on a drop-in basis.
  • For each 90-minute session, you will be available to read and play literacy games with Little Buddies as they drop in, either one-on-one or in a small group in ways that encourage a love of reading.
  • Volunteer spots are limited and your participation in the program is not guaranteed until your application has been received and approved.
  • Volunteer orientation and training are required.
